Weekly Hotlist for October 22nd

This week was great for Colorthemes. On Monday we launched a piece on Bed & Bath. We talked about linens and accessories.

Also on Monday, we’d forgotten about Blog Action Day and even though we didn’t have a story to write, we referred back to our piece last week about women in Afghanistan. It’s a touching piece and you should check it out if you haven’t.

We took a break on Tuesday, but came back on Wednesday with a piece about ROUND design studio and the work they did for Loreal. Fascinating work that inspires me.

Thursday was a recollection of my past weekend at our desert home and how being their puts my mind at rest. My new chore is to get that feeling in my Orange County home.

Of course, as always on Fridays, Dave wrote about some cool links to other blogs. One in particular, Remodeling My Space, likes what I write so much that they’ve asked me to write for them occasionally.

Weekly Hotlist for October 15th

• We started out this week talking about wood, hardwood floors to be exact and how a simple change of flooring can make a huge difference in the comfort of your home. Warm Feet, Warm Home.
• I was really taken by a new book I’m reading by Khaled Hosseini called A Thousand Splendid Suns. From there, I found a tear jerking story on Rawa.org about a very young girl persecuted in her homeland of Afghanistan just for being female.
• Just in time for winter, I talked about, um, patio furniture. Ok, maybe not timely, but these outdoor works of art will definitely put you in a tropical frame of mind.
• Of course, we ended up with our Weekenders list.

I realized I’m not letting my readers know enough about what’s going on and I’m not cross-promoting myself much, so here is a weekly list of links to things we’ve been up to over at Colorthemes.

• I ended September talking about Moving Beyond The Passion, both here and on CT, where I discussed the new direction for my life
• Problogger had a birthday bash contest and I offered up a prize of a free color consulation. The announcement over at Problogger brought a huge jump in traffic. Hopefully they’ll come back for more. We also got a winner.
• I’ve had some help around the office lately by the name of Jordan. He’s been a godsend and I only hope he finds his path soon.
• Padma’s Plantation offers some really great contemporary tropical furniture that I love.
• I was recently approached by artist Lynne Taetzsc. Her work inspired me to paint… and to write.
• Speaking of inspiration, I spent the past week in Hawaii with my sister, who I couldn’t live without.

Welcome… again!

My name is Michele Morgan and I’m an artist and interior designer and it only took me nearly half my life to figure out my calling. My design studio is The Right Color in Mission Viejo, CA. If I’m not painting, then I’m probably at a large table figuring out unique color combinations for my clients.

As an artist, I still consider myself in transition. I’ve changed media and medium so many times I could open my own art supply store, but I’m finally starting to see the end of the tunnel (at least until the next tunnel) and creating some of the boldest work I’ve ever managed to date.

From a design standpoint, I specialize in consultation for color, textiles and design elements, no more and no less. What this means to my clients is that I eliminate the fluff, give them only the meat and then allow them to work with contractors directly. This gives the client all the freedom in making the final decisions about their home without having to worry about some designer’s ego getting in the way. I merely lead them to the path and hand over a detailed map, but let them take their own journey. However, like On-Star or AAA, I’m always available when they get lost. Wow!  What a tremendous month for me!  No grass grew under my feet as I put so much on my plate and accomplished more goals than I ever dreamed could happen.

I might have mentioned before that I am an artist  — or should I say 100% artist.  So, my life is working just the way it should.  I have a tremedous interior design business that is sailing right along.  I knocked on the right door for my news release and the OC HOME magazine will feature one of the homes I created the color pallette and design theory for.

I just finished the last song for my CD so that I can start marketing my ”crooner” husband and myself.  And, he and I just finished the photography for the CD art.  And….. put the last few strokes on the oil painting for the upcoming group show that will happen next Saturday.

So, you can see I am having the most creative life.  Might I mention that I have a tremendous team to support me in all of this?  My husband, John Solone, my very talented son, Dave  (the apple doesn’t fall far), and my incredible design assistant, Shima.   I can’t forget who I captured this talent from.  That of course,  is my mother and father.  They are smiling on me now!

 As far as the more serious side of business is concerend, we am fortunate to be working with a wonderful couple on a tremendous new home located in the new development of Reef Point in the Newport Coast area of California.

You might say it’s a blank canvas!  Again, ….yeah!  We are havins some fun choosing the design theory of the home.  The mediteranean villa sits on a hill  about one half mile from the ocean.  So, we are blending that old world rustic with a flair of contemporary in the great room, a asian and tropical flavor in the guest rooms, a authentic theater room with a red sofa and sculted carpet, and possibly a moroccan touch in the casita and the master bedroom and sitting area will be cool, calm and collected like the ocean.

As we go along further, we will be showing some collections of our color pallettes.

Color to Eyes is like Music to Ears

Your eyes and ears may want rock and roll while another person may want smooth jazz or classical.  To each his own as they say.  The same is true for color.

As an artist, I find whatever music I put on while I’m painting will have a dramatic effect on the final piece.  I’m either energized working swiftly with the brushes or I’m mellow while melting into the art. The colors that surround you will create sensory changes in the brain.  Take a restaurant like Cheesecake Factory for instance. They incorporate colors that ignite the palette.  If you are a chef and entertain a lot, you could have people eating out of your hands with the right colors on everything from your walls to the plates you serve food on.  The next time you hear yourself “Ooooh or Aaaah!” when you walk into a room, check out why?  What is it?  Why does this food tastes so good?  What am I’m seeing? You might have some answers to what makes the music in your world swing. The same is true in your home. Trouble sleeping? You can change your room around as well as change the color to a soft green hue and you might find you’re dozing off easier.

Welcome to The Right Color

Life is good at The Right Color.  Today was a great day.  Orange County Home photograhed our work of Pascal and Christine Olhat’s home.  They are running an article about my philosophy on color.  This will run in their March issue.  I’m pretty excited about it as it shows a variety of looks and color throughout the home.  When I get a sneak preview, I will show the before and after of the home.

Pascal is a very famous chef in Orange County.  He has three restaurants at this date and his intention is to open another.  You can find Pascal’s in Newport Beach.  Both he and his lovely wife Christine have been a pleasure to work with.  They are very creative and love to travel.  It shows in their personal art and collections of furniture such as the opium bed.  We all decided that we wanted a Morrocan or Eclectic look to the loft area.  I can’t wait to show you the final shots.
